Dungmin Samzang Tshogpa is a community-based association founded on the profound values of compassion, solidarity, and shared humanity. Rooted in the traditions of Dungmin Gewog, the Tshogpa was established with a clear and heartfelt vision: to provide emotional, spiritual, and practical support to individuals and families during times of grief and the loss of loved ones.
Recognizing the deep need for unity and care during life’s most difficult moments, a committed group of credible, capable, and service-oriented individuals came together to create this association. Their collective knowledge, experience, and empathy form the backbone of our efforts to offer comfort, organize meaningful rituals, and extend a helping hand when needed the most.
Dungmin Samzang Tshogpa (DST) also plays a vital role in organizing community events, supporting local development initiatives, and preserving cultural heritage. The association also engages in activities that align with Bhutan’s philosophy of Gross National Happiness, promoting holistic well-being that values spiritual, social, and cultural harmony alongside economic progress.
Dungmin Gewog, located in the serene hills of Pemagatshel District, is a close-knit rural community known for its deep-rooted cultural values, spiritual traditions, and strong sense of solidarity. The gewog comprises several villages, where residents live harmoniously, guided by Bhutanese Buddhist principles and a shared commitment to community well-being.
The gewog’s social fabric is deeply interwoven with practices of mutual support, especially during life’s most challenging times. It is within this cultural and emotional landscape that Dungmin Samzang Tshogpa (DST) was born — as an initiative to uphold and strengthen these communal values.
Dungmin Gewog’s residents primarily engage in agriculture and livestock rearing, but equally important are the spiritual and cultural bonds that unite them. Festivals, rituals, and communal gatherings are not only expressions of faith but also moments of compassion, cooperation, and unity — ideals that DST continues to foster.
Through its presence and activities, DST reflects the spirit of Dungmin Gewog: a community that supports each other in times of grief, celebrates together in moments of joy, and works collectively for shared development and happiness. In harmony with Bhutan’s national vision of Gross National Happiness, both the gewog and the association embody values of spiritual well-being, social harmony, and cultural preservation.
